Time to Relax

I was not active with my blog last week, because I wanted to spent some quiet time with my family and enjoy my holiday. It is nice to be back home now and watch again the sunny pictures from Lanzarote, one of the spanish Canary Islands located in the Atlantic Ocean near the North-western part of African coastline. Lanzarote is a touristic destination like the other Canary islands, but still a interesting destination to visit. If you just hire a car or even a bike, you can easily find some peaceful and beautiful spots. At the Parque Nacional Timanfaya you can have a tour in the volcanic landscape(no volcanic activity anymore).

There is not so much green to see, more rocks, low green bushes and some palm trees and cactuses, but I like the simple character of this island. There are many high spots where you can admire the figure of the island or the curves of the coastline. The underground caves, made by the hot lava rivers a long time ago, are impressive. I am not so into sunbathing all the time or hanging at the hotel pool. The reason we came back to this island this winter is purely the landscape, nature and how it is combined to architecture. Also the warmer weather was great, kids were happy swimming all the time. This time of the year is cooler and sometimes quite windy, but for us the temperature (between 20-25 celcius)was just perfect.

Cueva de los Verdes: the underground world, nice tour in the network of caves

Mirador del Rio: a view from 479 meter high hill (restaurant&cafe)

One of the most well known characters from Lanzarote is the architect Cesar Manrique. He loved the volcanic landscape of this island and used it creating wonderful art of architecture combined the natural shapes of the nature. Here are few pictures from his work from our last trip.

Fundacion Cesar Manrigue: the house where Cesar Manrique lived until 1987(his own design)

One day we had a tasty lunch in Teguise. It is the oldest town in the Canary Islands with some historical sights. We found a little tapas and wine restaurant with a cosy patio.

I am having fun!
